Christopher today conducted 250 people in the premier performance of his latest work The Puffing Devil for massed brass bands and school choirs. The work, which was commissioned by Camborne Trevithick Day Committee to celebrate the 30th annual Trevithick Day, took place in Camborne, Cornwall, where Christopher worked with the bands and schools in the fortnight leading up to the event.
Taking part were six local bands: Camborne Town, Camborne Youth, Lanner & District, Helston, Pendennis Brass and Heyl Bands, who also marched individually through the streets performing a new march Christopher also wrote for the event, aptly entitled ‘Trevithick’.
Children from seven local sang in the performance: Penponds, St Johns, Trevithick, St Meriadoc, Kehelend, Rosemellin and Camborne Science & International Academy. It is thought the audience surrounding the performers totalled over 1000, with glorious Cornish sunshine.
