Christopher's latest work, a single movement piece for trombone quartet will receive its premiere tomorrow afternoon at St John's Smith Square; the prestigious concert hall in the heart of London as part of the annual Celebration of Brass Chamber Music in memory of Philip Jones.
Bone Appétit, who will be performing the new work 'Spiral Dreams', commissioned it earlier this year as a showcase for the quartet. Whilst structurally a single-movement work, it is presented in three clear sections, each of which is based on the inspiration behind the work - spiral galaxies - magnificent rotating disks in deep space, containing starts, gas and dust.
Christopher said: "Opening with bursts of sound and colour in a triumphant manner, the listener is instantly transported to these distant galaxies, with elements of excitement alongside grandeur and magnitude. Following this, a slow section forms the central part of the work, reflecting the isolation and pure distance from life on Earth. A turbulent explosion of sheer brilliance is heard in the final part of the work, perhaps reflecting the explosion of stars; the colliding of meteors; spiral galaxies one can only dream of."
Since forming in 2011, Bone Appétit have played many high profile concerts including graduation ceremonies at the University of South Wales, an appearance at Classic FM Live, and regular performances at the Millennium Stadium as resident musicians for the Welsh Rugby Union. Bone Appétit has also featured on a broadcast of Radio 3's In Tune program, performing live at a show's recording at the Hay Literary Festival.
The work will be published as part of Christopher's recently launched Brass Chamber Series, alongside his other chamber music for small brass ensembles.
