Tenor Horn concerto to receive Cornish premiere at Christmas

Christopher yesterday travelled down to Cornwall to conduct the Cornwall Youth Brass Band in the first rehearsal of his new tenor horn concerto, ‘Bestowal of a Century’. The work will be performed by Lowenna Taylor and the band and form the centrepiece of the band’s Christmas course and concert, culminating at St Michael’s Church in Newquay on 30th December.

Lowenna, who was named ‘Most Outstanding Brass Student in the country’ at the British Open Championships in 2013, was presented with the Harry Mortimer Memorial Award and subsequently commissioned the work.

The work is to commemorate the centenary of the presentation of the unique Royal Trophy, which is the premier award at the annual West of England Bandsman’s Festival in Bugle. Structured in three contrasting movements, this fifteen minute work is going to be exciting not just for the band but for those able to hear it.

The Cornwall Youth Brass Band’s Christmas course and concert will be conducted by Les Neish, with tickets available directly from the band.
