Welsh Sinfonia take flight

The Welsh Sinfonia today performed Christopher’s work ‘Flight 93’ at a concert in the Dora Stoutzker Hall in Cardiff. Based on the tragic events of 9/11, and those on Flight 93 in particular, the 5 minute work takes the listener on a journey, hearing the plane start up, cruise through the air, get attacked by the terrorists, and concludes with a respectful Adagio section to represent the sorrow of those that died innocently.

Following on from a workshop of the work-in-progress last month, the orchestra were delighted with the piece, with conductor Mark Eager showing enthusiasm during rehearsals.

The work, played alongside works by Welsh BAFTA winning composer John Hardy, and fellow students Benjamin Vaughan and Spyros Syrmos went under the overall performance title of ‘Nightflight’.

"The second movement, Christopher Bond’s Flight 93, was a programmatic offering, throwing the listener into the tragic events of 9/11. With dramatic moments and a truly heart-wrenching final Adagio, this proved a wonderful listen." ***** Western Mail, 24th March 2012
